Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Hello Spring community event at St John's Community Centre in Penistone and it was exactly the kind of evening that reminds you why this work matters.

The event was hosted by the brilliant Penistone Area Team on behalf of Barnsley Council's Love Where You Live initiative and Greennotes CIC - bringing together volunteer groups, community organisations, and new faces all united by a shared passion for making the Penistone area a better place.

The talent on show was genuinely jaw-dropping. Jake from Simon Cowell's 'The Next Act' on Netflix had the room captivated, and Millie Mae - Voice of the Year 2025  was outstanding. But the standout moment? Liberty Woodall, who just this year claimed Voice of the Year 2026. What a privilege to be in that room!

The Springvale Community Garden team were there too, with plants, homemade jams and honey that were impossible to walk past. (I may have come home with another jar of apple and blackberry jam. I have no regrets.)

But beyond the music and the jam, the night was a real opportunity to connect and to share something we've been quietly building for a while now.

We introduced people to Community360 a free app designed specifically for community groups involved in environmental work. We are trialling the app across the Penistone region. It helps volunteers manage projects, coordinate efforts, and request both funded and non-funded support to tackle the green space improvements that matter most to them.

At Vital Facilities Solutions, we've always believed that the biggest difference in a community isn't made by the biggest organisations it's made by the people who quietly show up, week after week, to do the work. Our role is simply to make that easier. To take on the bigger, more complex projects so that volunteers can focus on what they do best.

Evenings like this are a reminder of the incredible community spirit that exists in this part of South Yorkshire. We're proud to be part of it!
