Term's a couple of weeks in now, which means the honeymoon period for your site is over. The small things that get missed in the September rush - or that only show up once hundreds of people are back using the building every day - are starting to surface.

Doors that have started sticking as they bed in after summer. Fixings that worked loose in the first fortnight of heavy use - handrails, cupboard doors, playground equipment. Playground surfacing that's showing wear in the spots where everyone actually plays, not where it was assumed they would. And drains that struggled with the first proper September downpour, backing up in places that were fine all summer.

Why catching it now matters

Right now, every one of these is a five-minute fix or a quick call to get someone out. Left for a term, a sticking door becomes a broken closer, a loose fixing becomes a safety issue, and a slow drain becomes a flood the next time it rains hard.

The cost and the disruption both scale up the longer any of this sits on a list rather than getting actioned.
